Am Nachmittag des 29. April 1945 erreichten die ersten britischen Soldaten das Stalag X B Sandbostel. Sie befreiten etwa 14.000 Kriegsgefangene und 7.000 KZ-Häftlinge. Die britischen Soldaten waren tief erschüttert über die Zustände in dem Bereich, in dem die KZ-Häftlinge untergebracht waren, und nannten Sandbostel "a minor belsen" - ein kleines Belsen. Während des Rundgangs wird zu verschiedenen für die Befreiung bedeutenden Orten in der Gedenkstätte, aber auch im heutigen Gewerbegebiet gegangen und die Situation während der Befreiung und bei den frühen Rettungsmaßnahmen der britischen Armee aufgezeigt.

Traditionell findet der Rundgang am Sonntag vor der Gedenkveranstaltung statt - in diesem Jahr digital.

On the afternoon of April 29, 1945, the first British soldiers arrived at Stalag X B Sandbostel. They liberated about 14,000 prisoners of war and 7,000 concentration camp inmates. The British soldiers were deeply shocked by the conditions in the area where the concentration camp inmates were housed and called Sandbostel "a minor belsen" - a small Belsen.
